Changing Your Page Count
You can change the page count on any book at any time, including a book that is already for sale. The new number has to stay within the minimum and maximum for your binding type.
Small Corrections Cost You Nothing
If your new page count is within 5 pages of the interior you already uploaded, we just update your print charge and leave everything else alone. No re-upload, no new review, and your book stays on sale. You won't even see a confirmation dialog.
Here's the math behind that. Our white stock is 0.0039" per sheet and the cream is 0.0041", so 5 pages works out to about 0.01" of spine, half of that on each fold. Our cover tooling doesn't flag a spine difference until it reaches 0.03", so this is a third of the way to something we'd even mention. It isn't worth making you rebuild a cover over.
The 5 pages are measured against the file you uploaded, not against your last saved number. So if you've already corrected from 100 to 104, a further change to 108 is 8 pages away from the file and does reset.
Bigger Changes Reset Your Files
Past 5 pages the spine moves enough to matter, and the interior we have on file is the wrong length. Saving resets your interior and cover files. You'll upload both again, and they go through review before you approve a new digital preview.
If the book is for sale, saving the change also takes it off the store. It goes back up once you approve the new digital preview. We ask you to confirm this before the change is saved, so you're not caught out by it.
Do It in This Order
- 1. Change the page count on your book and click Save
- 2. Confirm the change when we ask
- 3. Upload a new interior file with exactly the new page count
- 4. Download a fresh cover template and upload a new cover
- 5. Wait for both files to be reviewed
- 6. Approve the new digital preview
Save before you upload anything. The upload buttons stay switched off until you do. That's true even for a small correction that resets nothing, because we check your file against the saved number and it would be rejected for not matching.
Your Interior File Has to Match Exactly
We count the pages in the PDF you upload and compare them to the page count on your book. If the two don't agree, the upload is rejected and we tell you both numbers. The 5-page allowance above is about not making you re-upload, it isn't a tolerance on the file itself. Whatever you send has to match the number on the book exactly.
Don't Forget the Cover
On a reset, a different page count means a different spine width and your old cover won't fit. Download a new template from the Print Files tab after you save, and build the new cover on that.
Does This Cost Anything?
No. The $25 upload fee is charged once, when the book is created. Replacing files later goes through review without a new invoice.
